Cäciliakirche Bodendorf

St. Georgen am Kreischberg

This little Gothic jewel, a work of art that has grown over 700 years, is about a 30-minute walk from St. Georgen. The church of St. Cäcilia, located in a secluded location, is characterized by the wooden beamed ceiling and frescoes from the 15th century.

According to legend, Margarethe Maultasch, was angry about the unsuccessful siege of Murau and the loosening of a horseshoe on her mount, threw the heavy iron into the wooden door, where it can still be seen today. The richly ornamented Gothic wooden ceiling from around 1500 and the extremely high-quality frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries (legend of the Three Kings, Catherine, Margaret and Cecilia) are well worth seeing. The frescoes on the outer wall from the 15th century are also worth seeing. (Master v. Schöder). The simple Protestant pulpit is also worth mentioning.
